Frýdlant – The renovation of Hrnčířské náměstí is being prepared in Frýdlant in the Liberec region. The aim of the project is to significantly improve safety for pedestrians and drivers in a busy area, enhance public space, and increase comfort for residents and visitors to the city center. The work will be carried out while traffic continues, in phases, and should be completed by the Valdštejn celebrations, which will take place from May 16 to 18, said Deputy Mayor Jiří Stodůlka to ČTK.
The revitalization will include the construction of new sidewalks along the entire square, which will connect important communication routes in the area, such as ČSA Street, Okružní Street, and Zahradní Street. The new sidewalks will replace the existing fragmented infrastructure and ensure a safe and comfortable environment for pedestrians. "Our goal is to create a place that will serve both pedestrians and drivers. The new sidewalks will improve orientation and increase safety, which is essential in this busy area," added Stodůlka.
As part of the project, the road in Okružní Street will also be repaired, where according to Stodůlka, a new pedestrian crossing will be created, and the traffic will be generally pacified. Another part of the revitalization will be the construction of new time-limited parking spaces designated for visitors to local shops, doctors' offices, and pharmacies. "Eight parking spaces will be created in the square, which will be designed with consideration for people with disabilities and also for ambulances that visit general practitioners," added the deputy mayor.
According to Dana Kiliánová, head of the city's investment department, consideration is being given to preserving the historical character of Hrnčířské náměstí by using stone paving on the sidewalks and other public areas, which will also ensure the long lifespan of the surfaces. "We are trying to ensure that the work is as non-invasive as possible and that residents have maintained access and transit," Kiliánová added. The total costs for the modifications are estimated at 2.5 million crowns excluding VAT, and the project will be fully financed by the municipality from the city budget, without grants.
