Prague – The Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University (CTU) will help the National Sports Agency with the creation of standardized sports facilities, which should save costs. The Czech Chamber of Architects and the Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians Active in Construction will also be involved in the project. Today, all parties signed a joint memorandum at the CTU premises.

"We are trying to approach the financing of sports facilities as professionally as possible. Standardization of sports facilities is the right step. We want to invest with maximum professional support," said the Chairman of the National Sports Agency, Milan Hnilička (for ANO).

The Rector of CTU, Vojtěch Petráček, cited the construction of railway or school buildings during the Austro-Hungarian era as a successful example of typification. "Most of those buildings are still in use today. By using one type of building in various projects where it was possible, savings could be made. Hopefully, this will be successful again now," said Petráček.

According to its chairman, Jan Kasl, the Czech Chamber of Architects has set three fundamental areas. One of them is to properly place buildings in the land designated for development by municipalities. "Not all sports facilities are located where it is spatially and conceptually advantageous in the long term. Furthermore, there is the issue of standards, repetition of typologies, tested activities or models of sports buildings. The third area involves architectural competitions for sports complexes. A competition is usually a source of the best designs," added Kasl.

The National Sports Agency was established last August. It will take over the distribution of sports grants from the Ministry of Education. It will start disbursing money from 2021, but has already been working on creating new grant programs since this year. Approximately 85 million crowns will go to its management this year. The ministry will only monitor the settlement of grants for this year until the middle of next year, after which it will definitively end its involvement in sports outside of schools.
