Prague - The Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) will begin preparations for the construction of a tram line from Malovanka to Strahov. The trams could now run from Bělohorské Street from the Malovanka stop, continuing along Vaníčkova Street and ending at the current bus terminus Stadion Strahov. The 1.3-kilometer line is estimated to cost 660 million crowns, according to a document approved by Prague councilors today.
Prague is now planning the extension of tram lines from Barrandov to Slivenec, from Modřany to Libuš, or from Pražské povstání to Pankrác and further to Budějovická.
If the city constructs the line, selected routes would not continue from Malovanka towards Břevnov but would divert to Strahov. Two new stops are planned along the route: Koleje Strahov and the Stadion Strahov loop.
The actual construction could take place between 2023 and 2025 according to the document approved by the councilors. However, the prerequisite is that the DPP starts work on preparing the project documentation as soon as possible. According to the councilors' decision, the project should be completed by the end of 2020.
It is not yet clear how much the construction of the line would exactly cost. The aforementioned estimate is from 2017 and will need to be updated.
