Jablonec nad Nisou

Jablonec nad Nisou - Architecture Day in Jablonec nad Nisou will present interesting buildings from the 1990s to interested parties on Sunday. The tour will be led by city architect David Pavlišta. However, it will not be a walk; interested participants will visit the interesting buildings by bicycle. The event is part of the 9th edition of the Architecture Day festival, which offers tours of otherwise inaccessible buildings and walks through both famous and lesser-known places with expert commentary across the country until October 7.

"The format of the ride was decided by the fact that one of the interesting buildings from this time is located in Břízky near the biathlon track. The bike allows us to cover more stops throughout Jablonec, but it is definitely not the intention to turn Architecture Day into a sports event. The pace will be gentle enough for festive cyclists or older citizens,” Pavlišta told ČTK. He wants to introduce interested parties not only to interesting buildings in the city but also to current urban plans and investments.

The start of the bike tour will be on Sunday at 3:00 PM at Dolní náměstí in front of the building that architect Josef Faltejsek from Ateliér 4 adapted in 1995 as the seat for the Investment and Post Bank. "He will also give a short introduction about the building itself and the time in which it was created,” added Pavlišta. The destination of the ride, which will have about ten to 15 stops, will be, according to him, the biathlon track in Břízky.

This year, nearly a hundred Czech and Slovak cities participated in the Architecture Day. In the Liberec Region, Česká Lípa will also offer guided tours over the weekend. On Saturday morning, the Primary School in the Sever housing estate, designed by architects Zdeněk Zavřel and Dalibor Vokáč, will be opened to visitors. In the afternoon, a walk with the authors of the Holý vrch housing estate built in the 1960s and 70s will be on the agenda.

Guided tours are also waiting for architecture lovers in Liberec. On Saturday, a walk is scheduled with architectural historian and heritage expert Jaroslav Zeman, who will present buildings designed by architect Pavel Švancer, including the Liberec swimming pool, in Liberec and its surroundings. On Sunday, architectural historian and heritage expert Alena Řičánková will present the urban and architectural development of the intersection of Masaryk and Vítězná streets, where among other things the North Bohemian Museum and the recently renovated spa building, now the Regional Gallery, are located.
