Prague – Workers will begin construction of a school pavilion for the Primary School Bílá on Na Kocínce Street in Prague 6. The new building will offer eight classrooms and space for an after-school club and will serve approximately 240 students. It is expected to be completed in 2026. CTK reported this from the spokesperson of the city district, Marek Zeman. The estimated construction costs are around 170 million crowns. Prague is struggling with a shortage of school places; therefore, it plans to build additional schools.
The School Na Kocínce will have eight core classes with 30 students each, an after-school club, and a lunch distribution area. The building will be affiliated with the neighboring Primary School Bílá, which is operated by the sixth city district of Prague. The pavilion will also include a food distribution area and a school cafeteria. The building will have three floors.
The school cafeteria will also serve as a multipurpose hall for school academies or events for Prague 6 and local residents. A glass opening wall will connect the cafeteria with the outdoor amphitheater and the adjacent garden, which will also feature play elements, herb beds, and fruit trees. The garden will include an outdoor gazebo, which will be large enough to allow for a class to be taught there. The premises can also host day camps.
The ZŠ Na Kocínce has been designed to have low energy consumption. The project includes a green roof and a façade covered with climbing plants. The building will be heated by heat pumps, and rainwater will be used for watering the garden on the school grounds.
Workers will also renovate the premises, including fencing and adjacent paths. They will modify Na Kocínce Street to increase children's safety and the adjacent Kadeřávková Street, including the intersection with Na Kotlářce Street, where existing panel paths will be adjusted, creating a new entrance to the adjacent park.
The total construction costs are expected to be around 170 million CZK, of which 100 million was provided to the city district by the capital city, and 50 million was obtained from the State Environmental Fund. The pavilion will be constructed on municipal land according to a design by Jaromír Kosnar and Radovan Kupka from the architectural studio AND.
Prague also plans the construction of other primary schools. According to earlier information, they are expected to be built in Březiněves, Dolní Měcholupy, Lipence, Újezd, Komořany, or Uhříněves. Construction is also being prepared in Prague 3, 5, 7, 8, and 10.
