Nová Paka (Jičínsko) - The cinema in Nová Paka in the Jičín region has a new original facade designed by the renowned architect David Vávra. The chosen retro design refers to the successful Brussels style of the 1960s when the cinema building was created, said cinema owner David Horáček to ČTK. The Nová Paka cinema operates as a multifunctional cultural facility, hosting concerts, lectures, and exhibitions.
"The facade's graphics were inspired by the World Expo 1958 and elements of the Laterna Magika design. I am very pleased that it was architect David Vávra who is the author, as he participated in the renovations of many Czech theaters," Horáček told ČTK.
The cinema was established in the 1960s by converting an older building. The property has been privately owned for five years. The current owner is gradually trying to renovate it and preserve its original character. "The hall is original from the turn of the 60s and 70s with original chandeliers and details; many such places are no longer in the Czech Republic. Everything should stem from that. We would like to preserve the original character of the cinema," Horáček stated.
In the future, a building is intended to be constructed near the cinema that would emphasize the intention of the graphic design of the facade along with a reference to Laterna Magika, the world's first multimedia theater. "It's currently in the realm of considerations. It should be a building that creates moving shadows and lights," added Horáček.
