The supporters of Santini want to connect his buildings throughout the country with events

Žďár nad Sázavou - The Association for the Journey to Santini is preparing a five-year project that aims to commemorate the legacy of the baroque architect Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel through exhibitions, cultural festivals, educational and other events. It should concern Santini's buildings across the country. The association wants to start activities on December 7, on the occasion of the anniversary of Santini's death, and they should continue until 2023, when it will be 300 years since Santini's death. Stanislav Růžička from the association said today.

"There are 85 of Santini's buildings. They are located in seven regions, four dioceses, and 45 towns and villages,"
said Růžička. The project called Opus Santini is being prepared by a group comprised of owners and managers of Santini's buildings as well as people from academia. The working conference on August 21 in Žďár nad Sázavou was also attended by representatives from all seven regions, dioceses, municipal offices, the Ministry of Culture, and Charles University. "That’s where the project was opened up," Růžička said.

Among the planned activities is, for example, the connection of Santini's monuments through educational trails and the establishment of a research center focused on Santini's legacy and the baroque period. The project costs are estimated in the range of several tens of millions of crowns. Růžička did not provide details, referring to the fact that matters are still being clarified.

Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel (February 3, 1677 - December 7, 1723) was a Czech architect of Italian origin who became famous for his unique style known as baroque gothic. In Žďár nad Sázavou, he created the pilgrimage church of St. John of Nepomuk on Zelená Hora, registered in the UNESCO list of monuments, and other buildings for the monastery.

The association (formerly a civic association) for the Journey to Santini was established in 2011 with a focus on popularizing Santini's work. Further details can be found at http://www.santini.cz/cz/.
