Chrudim is considering whether to get rid of the castle with the park in Přestavlky

Přestavlky - Chrudim is considering whether to dispose of the chateau with a park in Přestavlky. The historical property of the town is used by the therapeutic educational department of the children's home with a school, which is established by the Ministry of Education. The town and its residents gain no benefit from the ownership of the monument, stated Mayor František Pilný (ANO).

According to him, there are several options for handling the chateau. "For example, exchanging the chateau complex with the state for agricultural land in Chrudim and surrounding areas. We need some of these, and the state is demanding several million crowns for them. Others we can at least lease to farmers," said Pilný. Another possibility is the sale of the monument.

The chateau underwent reconstruction at the beginning of the millennium, but some elements such as balcony insulation and windows are already, according to Pilný, reaching the end of their lifespan. Chrudim has a contract with the state for a free loan of the complex, with the condition that the home will repair and maintain the building. However, the organization does not want to invest in someone else's property.

"We have to pay property tax, and meanwhile, the complex is purely unprofitable for us, and I dare say that for the citizens of Chrudim, the park in Přestavlky is completely underutilized," said Pilný. He estimates the value of the chateau with the park to be roughly 30 million crowns. Negotiations with the state, according to him, will take several years.

The original fortress in Přestavlky was probably rebuilt into a baroque chateau in the 17th century, and in 1872, it was restructured by Jan Keller in a pseudo-Renaissance style. In 1945, after confiscation, the building was adapted for the Chrudim hospital. The one-story rectangular building with two side wings extending to the west is covered by a low hipped roof with a small tower.
