Brno will repair the football stadium for 100 million to meet the requirements of the highest league

Brno – Brno is preparing modifications to the football stadium on Srbská Street, estimated to cost between 80 to 100 million crowns. This was announced to journalists today by the city councilor for sports, Tomáš Aberl. The city wants the stadium to meet the new conditions for matches in the top football league. The football club Zbrojovka Brno plays at the stadium.

The councilors approved the preparation of the investment project. "The necessity for modifications arises from the material Stadiums 2023, approved by the Football Association of the Czech Republic and the League Football Association. According to this manual, stadiums will be assessed starting from the 2023/2024 season and certificates of their qualification will be issued in accordance with UEFA standards," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková. If the stadium fails the assessment and does not start meeting the requirements, according to Vaňková, matches from the top league or international games could not be held there.

The stadium must meet minimum design, layout, and architectural criteria. "Several requirements will be solved by a system of mobile containers at the entrance from Srbská Street, where a spectator medical facility will be located, as well as workrooms for media, photographers, commentators, and two additional rooms as television studios," stated Aberl. Additionally, there must be a covered entrance to the pitch, plans include expanding the stands and the capacity of the stadium entrances, replacing seats for spectators, installing new sound systems, and a backup power source. According to Aberl, the work will not be completed by the required deadline, so it will be necessary to negotiate an exemption.

The city anticipates costs of up to 100 million crowns. However, this is only an estimate for now. More accurate figures will be clear only after the investment project and project documentation are prepared. Separately, a complete reconstruction of the main playing area is being addressed, including the replacement of the grass and the expansion of areas for player warm-ups behind the goals.
