Brno – The district of Brno-Vinohrady is negotiating with the city regarding the potential purchase of land from a developer who wanted to build facilities for sports and accommodation there. The price of the land with the project is 24 million. The district wants to contribute half of the price, and the other half would be provided by Brno. However, the city has offered to buy the land for more than 15 million, while the district would cover the remaining amount for the project. Mayor of Vinohrady Jiří Čejka said he disagrees and wants to continue splitting the cost evenly with the city.

Opposition councilor in Vinohrady and also a coalition councilor at the city hall Jitka Ivičičová (KDU-ČSL) stated that the city proposed a generous solution to buy the land at the usually expected price of 15.4 million, as confirmed by an expert assessment. "The district of Brno-Vinohrady would then need to settle the costs associated with the preparation of the project amounting to 8.6 million crowns, request the city to entrust the land for management, and ensure its use for the recreation of residents," said Ivičičová.

However, Čejka stated that legal analyses indicate that spending 8.5 million on projects that the municipality will not need is not wise. "In other words, we would be paying 8.5 million for papers that we could throw into the fireplace. Therefore, we further propose to give half of 12 million crowns and the city would provide the other half. Then the land would be entrusted to us, and we intend to build sports facilities and greenery there," said Čejka. The city council was supposed to decide, but the item was withdrawn. There will be further discussions; the mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková (ODS), stated that a special council meeting might be held regarding the withdrawal of this item.

According to Čejka, the district of Brno-Vinohrady has approximately 13,000 residents and manages an annual budget of nearly 60 million crowns.
