Brno – Brno wants to build a kindergarten and primary school in the Sadová district. The mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) told ČTK that costs could be estimated in the hundreds of millions. The area is among the development zones for housing and most of it is already built up, but there is a lack of civic amenities. A competition will be held for the design of the school and kindergarten.
The extent of the area, including the space in front of the school and kindergarten, is about 3.4 hectares. "According to the estimated capacity, the kindergarten should have five classes and the primary school should have 18 core classes. The size of the schools is determined by the forecast of future construction in the area," said the councilor for education Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL).
According to mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS), construction has been intensively ongoing in Sadová for years. "Unfortunately, without accompanying civic amenities. Local residents have to travel to neighboring parts of the city for services, recreational activities, or culture. We want to gradually remedy this situation. We will build a kindergarten and primary school for families. To ensure the project is of high quality, we will announce a competition," Vaňková said.
The land on Zaječí hora street is designated as a public utility area in the proposal for the new zoning plan. "It allows for complex construction. The purpose of the competition is to find and evaluate the most suitable solution and select a developer for the project documentation for the construction project. We could know the winner by the summer of next year," Hladík said.
Brno operates 140 kindergartens that are attended by about 11,500 children, and around 70 primary schools that have more than 32,000 students.
