Brno - The Brno Public Transport Company is preparing the construction of a tram line from the Štefánikova quarter to Halasovo náměstí in Lesná, and has requested an opinion on the environmental impact of the construction (EIA). At the same time, it is preparing documentation for the building permit, as stated by the company's spokesperson Hana Tomaštíková for ČTK and from the document on the Information Portal EIA. Key reconstruction of the bridge over the railway line could begin next year, and in the optimistic scenario, trams could start running on the line in 2025.
The construction of the line to Lesná has been planned for several decades, effectively since the construction of the Lesná housing estate. Since the 90s, when the Husovice tunnels were built, tracks for the future line have been lying on the road above them. Only now will they find use. The length of the new line will be approximately one and a quarter kilometers.
Thanks to the connection of two radial lines, it will be possible to divert trams during extraordinary or planned disruptions without having to introduce bus transport.
Before the construction of the line, the streets will be completely reconstructed, as will the bridge over the railway line. The construction of the line will begin at the intersection of Merhautova and Provazníkovy streets, where a new stop will be created for easier transfers to trolleybus lines. The Štefánikova quarter loop will be abolished, and from its level, the track will run along the street axis, utilizing the already laid tracks in part of the route. The stops Lesná, nádraží, and Poliklinika Lesná will be island stops and will also be served by bus lines to facilitate transfers. Where there is currently a four-lane street, it will only be two-lane.
The large and complex roundabout at the junction of Merhautova, Okružní, and Seifertova streets will also be abolished; instead, a classic T-shaped intersection will be created, with Seifertova street being the secondary road. The intersection is designed so that in the future, the tram line can easily curve uphill into Lesná along Seifertova street.
Among other things, the construction will include the creation of separate bike paths along Seifertova and Okružní streets on the side towards the housing estate.
A new tram line is currently under construction in Plotní street in Brno, where it is being relocated from Dornych and main construction works on the new line from Osová to the Bohunice Hospital are expected to begin in the spring.
