Brno - The Brno city hall wants to repair the dilapidated building on Hlídka street under Špilberk Castle. The building, which used to be a restaurant, has been unused for several years. Three years ago, it was even set on fire by homeless people. The city would like to use the building for ecological education. The repairs are estimated to cost about 15 million crowns, said deputy mayor Oliver Pospíšil to ČTK.
Discussions about repairing the building, which most visitors to the popular Brno monument cannot miss, have been ongoing for years. "If it were three million, the city could manage it and repair it, but it's not that simple," noted the deputy.
Part of the funding is to come from European Union subsidies. "But then it will be necessary to maintain the original intent for about five to ten years," added Pospíšil. The city sees the establishment of facilities for environmental education as a suitable use. "After all, it is quite an isolated space, so it is not a bad use. There is definitely a connection to ecology," said Jiří Ponížil from Fiedler reality.
Hlídka 4 is not the only address the city has plans for. It is also considering selling the Myslivna hotel at the outskirts of the city. The city originally offered the facility for a minimum price of 135 million crowns but received no bids. It is now considering how to handle the property, which requires extensive repairs.
