In 2017, the Cosa team created three documentaries showcasing not only the architectural realizations of the 1980s but also, through interviews with the project authors, the conceptual background of the architectural profession of that time. In 2018, Cosa followed up with another four documentaries, focusing primarily on the relationship between postmodern theory and the then Czechoslovak practice. In the documents, the authors of the buildings speak again – Josef Pleskot, Vlado Milunić, Jan Línek, Michal Brix, and Zdeněk Hölzel, with interviews conducted by Rostislav Švácha, Jana Pavlová, and Michaela Janečková.
Engaging with the architecture of the normalization period is a strategic decision – the socialist realism of the 1950s was accepted, the “golden sixties” almost revered, while the 1970s acknowledged the heirs of the previous decade, such as the buildings completed by Machonin or SIAL at that time. The architecture of the 1980s fades into obscurity and is still merely the target of visits from peculiar “enthusiasts.” It is not yet old enough to deserve heritage protection, and moreover, it is often imbued with the spirit of postmodernism, an aesthetic that is not particularly popular today.
