LIBEREC, October 12 (ČTK) - The Prague company Amádeus Real has begun construction of a new shopping center in the lower part of the center of Liberec, which will be named Delta. The seven-story shopping gallery will offer more than 6,000 square meters of shopping and office space. The shopping center, costing nearly 200 million crowns, is expected to welcome its first customers in September next year, said Ondřej Paclt, spokesman for Syner, the company building the center, today in a statement to ČTK. Similar shopping centers have already been built by Amádeus Real in Ústí nad Labem, Prague, and Brno, with more projects planned in Hradec Králové, Plzeň, and Ostrava. The project for the shopping center, which would connect to the Palác Dunaj and complete part of the lower center of Liberec near the public transport terminal, has existed in plans for several years. However, construction was delayed due to negotiations with some land and building owners whose properties needed to be cleared for the construction. Only this spring could the demolition of buildings finally begin. The palace was designed by Karlovy Vary architect Antonín Juštík. The building has rounded corners and its central space features a covered atrium. The building is to house shops, cafés, and restaurants, but no supermarket. "Interestingly, the architect incorporated the protected monument house U Zeleného stromu into the project," noted Paclt. The dilapidated neoclassical house, which is on the list of the most endangered monuments in the Liberec region, will finally be restored. However, Delta Center is not the only construction of this kind in this part of the city. Another shopping center is rising just a few meters from Delta between Na Bídě and Lipová streets. Lipová Development is constructing a multifunctional building with a supermarket, medical offices, and about 40 apartments. The store with parking is expected to start operating by the end of this year. Recently, the Dutch company AM Development has presented another project just across the street, planning to build a shopping and entertainment center Forum on the site of the current Tesco department store.
