<Akvacentrum v Kyjově za více než 200 milionů korun se otvorí na podzim> translates to <Aqua Center in Kyjov for more than 200 million crowns will open in the autumn>

Kyjov – In Kyjov in the Hodonín region, the construction of a new aquacenter worth more than 200 million crowns is reaching its peak. Workers are testing the trial operation of the pumps and finishing the tiling in the wellness area and other aesthetic elements. The opening of the center is planned for the turn of September and October, said Deputy Mayor of Kyjov Daniel Čmelík (independent) to ČTK today. The city negotiated with the contractor for about a year, who demanded a price increase for the contract. In the end, they refused to pay more.

The price that emerged from the competition was approximately 285 million crowns, of which 70 million covered the reconstruction of the outdoor swimming pool that opened last year. The rest of the funds are for the construction of the aquacenter. The total price eventually grew to about 320 million crowns. The reason includes, among other things, additional work worth 15 million. "So, roughly five percent of the value of the work. Which is a nice number compared to other constructions across the country. The additional work includes, for example, modifications to the parking lot, where the company found that there is poor subsoil," Čmelík said.

The remaining 20 million consists of subcontracting, such as photovoltaic systems and other technologies to ensure the lowest possible energy consumption of the building. However, the costs for the aquapark could have been even higher. The contractor, Metrostav DIZ, requested the city for a price increase in the first half of last year due to rising material and labor costs. "The company requested almost 30 million crowns. We perceived that the situation had changed and waited to see if any competent authority would issue a methodology on how to proceed in such a situation. That did not happen. Considering that we have stated in the contract that the contractor bears the risk of changing conditions, the city council decided in July not to approve the price increase request," Čmelík added.

According to him, the city took into account the principle of proper management as well as the financial result of the contractor, which amounted to 50 million crowns last year. Čmelík is not afraid that this decision will endanger the construction at such an advanced stage. Kyjov took out a loan of 330 million crowns for the entire project, which started with demolition work in the autumn of 2021. As a result of repaying this loan, it is expected that there will be less money for other investments than in previous years. According to the deputy mayor, it is therefore necessary to save more on operating expenses and use other funding sources for further contracts.
