The German architect Florian Busch left after studying at the Bauhaus in Weimar and AA in London to gain experience at the Tokyo studio of Toyo Ito. Eventually, he decided to stay in Japan and founded his own office in Tokyo in 2009. His latest project is a bar on a plot of just 50 m² in the densely built-up area of Kiyamachi Dori in the historic center of Kyoto. The vertical wooden slats on the façade further enhance the slimness and verticality of the entire building. From the outside, the structure only vaguely hints at what is happening inside. The house, standing 16.7 meters tall, is divided into a total of eight height levels. The interior layout remains as open as possible without internal partitions. The shell allows views from the house over the Takase-gawa River. An airy steel staircase with a minimalist railing made of vertical steel rods runs through the center of the house. From the steel landings, one directly enters mini concrete floors. Guests move upward from aperitif on the ground floor to digestif on the top floor. The limited choice of materials maintains a raw appearance and subdued colors. Life and color are intended to be brought into the interior by the guests.
