Modena (Italy) - A new building of the famous car brand Ferrari's museum will open in Modena, Italy, at the beginning of March, designed by the Future Systems studio, still under the leadership of architect Jan Kaplický. The museum dedicated to the founder of the company, Enzo Ferrari, began construction three years ago, shortly after Kaplický suddenly passed away in January 2009.

The museum's construction was initiated by a foundation that cares for the legacy of the great designer. The architectural competition for the project was announced back in 2004, and out of a dozen participants, the London studio Future Systems was ultimately selected. It designed a futuristic building reminiscent of the hood of the famous car, complete with characteristic grilles. It even used the Ferrari emblematic color - yellow, so the museum's roof shines brightly in the area.
The museum will consist of a reconstructed house where Ferrari was born in 1898, as well as a new wing whose construction cost 23 million dollars (about 600 million crowns). While the birthplace will feature an exhibition dedicated to Ferrari himself, the new building will showcase his cars.
"There is immense satisfaction and excitement that after years of intense work, the Enzo Ferrari Museum Foundation is finally standing just before the opening of this important cultural institution, which will tell the world the story of a great personality and automotive passion in this region," said Mauro Tedeschini, the foundation's director, to Autoweek. The museum will also commemorate other manufacturers based in the area between Modena and Imola - such as De Tomaso, Lamborghini, Maserati, Minardi, and Ducati.
The museum in Modena will officially open on March 10. Celebrations will precede events commemorating the anniversary of Enzo Ferrari: he was born on February 18, 114 years ago.
