The work of Japanese architect Kazunari Sakamoto could be more closely known to the Czech audience last year at an exhibition in the Prague Gallery of Critics or directly at one of his lectures - here. A few days ago, Sakamoto's design won a competition for the Werkbundsiedlung Wiesenfeld in the Munich district of Schwabing. In June of last year, 415 offices entered the competition for the redevelopment of the former barracks area. Three offices (two from Munich and Sakamoto) were designated as winners in February of this year and were simultaneously invited to further develop their projects. The contract for 400 residential units was eventually awarded to Kazunari Sakamoto in collaboration with Ove Arup. The ceremonial stone will be laid next year during the centennial celebration of the Deutscher Werkbund, and the entire project will be completed in 2010. Info>
