The Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) has appointed Shohei Shigematsu as partner of the OMA Holding company. Mr. Shigematsu is currently director of OMA*AMO PC in New York.

Mr. Shigematsu is currently in charge of Cornell University’s new building for the College of Architecture, Art and Planning in Ithaca, NY, a Mixed-use High-rise Building in Jersey City, NJ, and a Residential Tower with CAA (Creative Artist Agency) screening room on 23 East 22nd Street in Manhattan amongst other projects. And he will keep his current post in New York overseeing OMA’s operations in North America.

Shohei Shigematsu was project leader of winning design competitions such as the CCTV Headquarters in Beijing, the Koning Julianaplein Mixed-use Building in The Hague and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Building. He has been a driving force in conceptual projects such as the Universal Headquarters in Los Angeles, the Whitney Museum Extension in New York, the Tokyo vertical Campus, the China National Museum and Prada Epicenters for Shanghai and London.

Mr. Shigematsu was born in Fukuoka, Japan in 1973. He graduated in 1995 from the Department of Architecture at Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. After studying at the Berlage Institute Amsterdam (Postgraduate Laboratory), he joined the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in 1998.

Shigematsu became Associate of OMA Rotterdam in 2004 and in 2006 became Director of OMA*AMO New York.

Shohei Shigematsu designed the traveling exhibition “Waist Down,” featuring skirts designed by Miuccia Prada. The exhibition was launched in Tokyo, and has since appeared in Shanghai, New York and Los Angeles.

The Office for Metropolitan Architecture is a leading international partnership practicing contemporary architecture, urbanism and cultural analysis. It is engaged in a large number of projects in Europe, Asia and North America. OMA employs a staff of around 300 with offices in Rotterdam, New York, Beijing and Dubai.

The OMA partnership consists of Rem Koolhaas, Ole Scheeren, Ellen van Loon, Reinier de Graaf, Floris Alkemade, Victor van der Chijs and now also Shohei Shigematsu.
