London - The Royal Institute of British Architects has published the list of finalists who will compete for the prestigious Stirling Prize this year. Stephen Hodder, RIBA president, described all six finalists as buildings that unexpectedly enrich the urban environment while excelling in the quality craftsmanship of their details.
Of the six finalists, only two are located outside London, and coincidentally, they come from authors who have not previously featured among the Stirling Prize finalists. The winner of the Stirling Prize, like in the last two years, will not receive a monetary award. This year's jury will include newly elected RIBA president Jane Duncan, architect Peter Clegg, last year's winner Steve Tompkins, and philanthropist Theresa Sackler. The winner will be ceremonially announced on October 15 at RIBA's headquarters on Portland Place.
