Main Berlin Station by gmp architects

The new Berlin central station will be fully operational on May 28, 2006, at 4:20 AM after two days of celebrations. The design, costing over 700 million euros, comes from the German firm Archikten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner (in 1993 their project beat J.P. Kleihues) and was completed after more than eleven years of construction work. It is by far the most expensive railway construction in the post-war era. The station is expected to serve over 300,000 passengers daily. The platform is covered by a lightweight steel structure with a span of 160 meters and a height of 27 meters. Info>
