Paris - Experts from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) arrived today in the Italian ancient city of Pompeii to examine the condition of this site, where several buildings have recently collapsed. This was reported by the AFP agency, citing UNESCO.

The experts are expected to investigate the extent of the damage to this site, which is on UNESCO's World Heritage list. At the beginning of November, the House of the Gladiators collapsed, and this week several walls fell, including in the House of the Moralists. This has sparked a wave of outrage and concern in Italy regarding the care of ancient monuments and heritage sites in general.
The mission of the experts, who will remain here until Saturday, is to identify and describe any threats to other structures and propose protective measures to prevent further deterioration of the site. The conclusions of this mission will be presented at the next World Heritage Committee meeting in Bahrain in June next year.
Pompeii was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Systematic excavations have been conducted here since 1860. It is the best-preserved urban site from the Roman period. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata, which were also buried in ash after the eruption of Vesuvius in 79, has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1997.
