We would like to cordially invite you to the exhibition of competitive proposals for the modification of Wenceslas Square, which takes place from December 12, 2005, to January 6, 2006. From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays in the exhibition hall of the Martinic Palace (ÚRM) at Hradčanské náměstí 8 in Prague 1.

Winner - the author of the winning proposal for the new appearance of Wenceslas Square is the studio Cigler Marani Architects, s.r.o., led by Doc. Ing. arch. Jakub Cígler, AIA. Co-authors were Ing. Václav Malina and Ing. Jiří Paleček.

The basic ideological starting point of the proposal is the concept of axial solution, which stems from historical traces, in the module of "earthly cord" (30.794 m).
It thus follows the principle of the foundation of the New Town of Prague.
Maximally widened sidewalks of the urban boulevard provide not only more space for pedestrians but also support greater residential quality in the ground floor area.
The tram line is concentrated along the central axis, and the proposal allows for modifications even without the introduction of trams. The design does not exceed the assignment beyond the area of the square itself. Entrances and exits from garages, as a potential disruptive element, are appropriately eliminated by a double line of trees. In the upper part of the square, their placement induces traffic. The principle of supply is simple and clear.
The design of pavements and street furniture is sober and logical. The alleys are rendered succinctly yet interestingly, and their layout allows for the gradual replacement of aged trees. Debatable, from an operational point of view, is the use of curb stones not connected to the surface of the sidewalk.
The solution is cultivated and due to the possibility of staging is feasible.
The quality of the proposal attests to the sophisticated approach of the authors and the sensitive balancing of the symbolic and utilitarian functions of the square.

Third places - were awarded to three proposals for the solution of Wenceslas Square:

The awarded proposal number 5 is the work of: Art2architecture London Ltd., Alan Baxter associates London, and Metroprojekt Praha, a.s.
Proposal number 10, which won third place, was designed by: Ing. arch. Miroslav Cikán, Ing. arch. Pavla Melková. Co-author is Ing. arch. Jana Hejdová. Cooperation was acknowledged by Jan Chlumský, Architectural Atelier MCA, and the transport consultant for the proposal was Ing. Špilar.
The last awarded third place was proposal number 21, which is the work of Ing. arch. Jana Němce.
