Prague - Today marks the beginning of the seventh edition of the international architecture festival Architecture Week Prague 2013. The main theme of this year's edition is architectural heritage and contemporary architecture. Its main program will take place in the Jiřský Monastery at Prague Castle, where more than twenty exhibitions will be prepared. It will showcase architecture from nearly 30 Czech, Polish, and Slovak cities, modern and historical architecture from 40 countries, and the festival will visually present all landmarks listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List (745 sites from 157 countries). Lectures by both Czech and foreign architects, conferences, architecture days of selected countries, city days, architecture walks, and other events will also take place. A representative from UNESCO and experts in the preservation of monuments and architectural heritage will attend the conference on the Protection of Tangible Cultural Heritage within the European Union on October 3rd. Part of the festival is a new nationwide project called Playful Architect. Its goal is to introduce children to the historical architecture and monuments of their city, teach them what architectural heritage is and why it is important to care about, protect, and maintain it. The task for the children was to artistically depict selected architectural landmarks from their city. The best works are presented in a separate exhibition at the Jiřský Monastery. As a reward, the classes that participated in the project will spend a day at Prague Castle.
