The exhibition "First Architecture" presents the work of Martin Rajniš, who is one of the most inspiring architects in the contemporary Czech scene. The inspirational quality of Martin Rajniš is given by the connection of his personal life with his architectural career and an unwavering effort to understand the mission of architecture and the role of the architect. Questioning learned architectural and construction practices prompted him to revise his own architectural foundations, leading him from technically demanding projects to seeking inspiration from natural peoples, biological organisms, or land formation. From large-scale buildings to wooden family homes, towers, or sheds. The exhibition captures this reverse movement that can be found in Martin Rajniš's architectural work. It reflects his personal rebellion against the dictates of building material manufacturers, construction standards, and consumer lifestyles. It showcases a personal journey to find a position for architecture that is closer to nature but also to the users of architecture. The aim of the exhibition "first architecture" is to present inspiration from primitive architecture, which can still be very beneficial today for contemplating contemporary architectural strategies. Inspiration from primitive or folk construction methods also newly thematizes the work of Dušan Jurkovič. A part of the exhibition project is a workshop by Martin Rajniš with students from the Faculty of Architecture at VUT and the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology at the Mendel University in Brno, which will take place at the turn of March and April at the Museum of Applied Arts. The aim is to use pioneer tree species as material for constructing objects based on primitive architecture. The workshop is a testing ground for the possibilities that the use of pioneer tree species for construction offers.
