On September 27, 2014, an exhibition of Jiří Kroha and an exhibition hall will be opened in Benátky nad Jizerou at the former District House and museum at Husova náměstí 41. The permanent exhibition on the first floor will present the history of the building and commemorate the significant personality of architect Jiří Kroha, according to whose design the building was constructed in 1927. Visitors will familiarize themselves with the history of the house through period photographs and documents. The intimate exhibition will also include correspondence related to the selection process and construction progress, architectural plans, and interesting drawing variants of the future appearance of the building. Jiří Kroha (1893 – 1974) was not only a significant Czech architect and theorist who worked in the Mladá Boleslav region, where numerous timeless and avant-garde buildings were created, but also a scenographer, painter, and sculptor. Part of the Exhibition of Jiří Kroha will be short video projections showcasing famous buildings in the Mladá Boleslav region and the diverse, not exclusively architectural position of Kroha's work. Simultaneously with the Exhibition of Jiří Kroha, visitors will have access to the exhibition hall intended for one-year thematic exhibitions focused on contemporary art. The curator of the Exhibition of Jiří Kroha and the exhibition hall is Irena Jůzová, a Czech sculptor who has been working in Benátky nad Jizerou since 2001, specifically in the former District House and museum where she has her studio. The first contemporary art exhibition to be held in the new exhibition hall, titled 850 degrees Celsius, will present large-format enamel created by Irena Jůzová as part of the unique Smalt Art Symposium Vítkovice 2013. The exhibition will be ceremoniously opened on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 3 PM by the mayor of the city, Jaroslav Král, and professor Tomáš Vlček. Jiří Kroha's daughter, Sylva Šantavá, and granddaughter have also confirmed their attendance. The implementation of the Exhibition of Jiří Kroha and the exhibition hall has been financially supported by the City of Benátky nad Jizerou and the Central Bohemian Region. Co-organizers include the family of Jiří Kroha, the State District Archive of Mladá Boleslav, and the Museum of the City of Brno.
