Florence (Italy) – The famous Florentine gallery Uffizi has prepared an online exhibition of paintings with the theme of the birth of Jesus Christ for the upcoming Christmas. Works with Christmas themes can be viewed for free on the museum's website. Among the exhibits are the Adoration of the Magi by Albrecht Dürer and Leonardo da Vinci, as well as a triptych featuring the Adoration of the Shepherds by the Dutch master Hugo van der Goes.

The paintings are in high resolution, and for most of them, enlarged cuts showing the smallest details are available to view. This also applies to the freshly restored panel painting by Leonardo da Vinci, where previously indistinct details are now visible due to cleaning. The gallery has also added explanatory commentary to the paintings.

The gallery director Eike Schmidt explained in an interview with the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano that the curators carefully selected the works to clearly illustrate the historical development of the portrayal of the birth of Jesus.
