The Architecture Gallery Brno presents a multimedia architectural exhibition by the studio of students from the Faculty of Architecture at VUT in Brno titled Architecture of Scarcity, which was awarded a Special Jury Prize at the III. Bohuslav Fuchs Awards for the best studio project at the Faculty of Architecture VUT in 2015. We are architects of abundance. We have never known scarcity. We are a society of abundance and our architecture is a product of that abundance. The fragile and increasingly fragile illusion of heirs from a generation without war, hunger, global natural disasters, water scarcity, or the migration and disintegration of nations. Technology has not yet failed, resources are not threatened by depletion. Abundance will pass, the excessive will disappear. It is easy to be an architect in abundance; it is essential to remain one in scarcity… ARCHITECTURE OF SCARCITY Architecture of Global Change or How to Survive Together Not Just an Atomic Blast
The exhibition Architecture of Scarcity examines the role of the architect and their activities in times of crisis. This can be caused by military conflict, natural disasters, or technological decline. The contemporary city is such a complex system that in the event of a collision, it collapses first. There is nothing left to do but retreat once again to nature and its laws. The result is a decentralized nationwide network of settlements capable of securing themselves and affected groups, with the subsequent assumption of flexibility and development.
