Jihlava - Vysočina will have an ecological regional library. Grass will grow on the sides and roof of its new building. The region has taken the first step towards its construction - experts selected the winner of the public architectural competition. Next year, the office will commission the preparation of project documentation for land-use and building permits and start work on preparing the project to draw money from the EU, said regional councilor Martina Matějková today to ČTK.

The library will be built on the grounds of the hospital in Havlíčkův Brod and will cost approximately 175 million crowns.
According to the protocol, the jury stated that the winning design, based on current ecological trends in world architecture, creatively and respectfully addresses the challenges of the construction site, the relationship to the buildings on the neighboring Havlíčkova street, as well as the very diverse usage of the hospital complex. The integration of the building into the terrain's relief, according to experts, is not accidental. It also meets the library's operational requirements from the perspective of the 21st century.
In the first round of the public architectural competition for the design of the urban, architectural, technical, and operational solution of the new library, 40 proposals were submitted. In the first round in July, from 37 evaluated, the jury selected the five best for the second round, and then this month the winning proposal. At Tuesday's meeting, the councilors instructed the property department to announce the competition results, pay prizes and rewards to the authors of the awarded works, and organize an exhibition of the competition designs.
According to the conditions of the Czech Chamber of Architects, the competition results will be published on the region's electronic pages on Friday. The exhibition will most likely take place from December 8 to February 15 in the Eurocentra building at the Museum of Vysočina in Jihlava. Subsequently, it will be in Havlíčkův Brod in the lobby of the existing building of the Vysočina Regional Library.
