Art in Public Space
The city of Kolín invites you to the ceremonial unveiling of the "Kolín Snowman," which will take place on April 1st at 5 PM in the clearing on Politických vězňů street. The author of the work is the visual artist and sculptor Michal Novotný, working under the artistic name MICL.
The creative design of the snowman, which is 2 meters tall and made of dark gray concrete, lightly reacts to the classic theme of memorial processing in urban space and will be the first artwork selected by the jury in the art competition on the theme "Contemporary Art in Kolín." The piece will be installed from April 1st to September 30, 2019.

“The large dark snowman targets the emotions of passersby, their level of tolerance, their sense of humor and irony. But it also raises questions. Questions about the meaning of art, its form, and expression. The snowman can be loved, hated, or ignored. And that is its essence.”

The introductory speech will be given by the mayor of the city, Vít Rakušan (STAN). Furthermore, David Mateáško, the architect of Kolín, the guarantor of the art competition, and Veronika Marešová, the curator of the GASK gallery and a member of the jury, will speak. Other members of the competition jury include Zdeněk Franěk, Markéta Fantová, Pavel Rajdl, and Petr Švolba.
