Prague - The planned suburban park at the confluence of the Vltava and Berounka rivers in the south of Prague will be created according to the proposal by architects from the international teams EMF, NORMA, and PARETO. Representatives of the capital city announced the winner of the landscape-urban planning competition today. The city will now enter into a contract with the winning team to refine the proposal into a more detailed scale with a description of the next steps. The winning design will be on display at the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning until May 10.

The park, which will extend from Prague into the Central Bohemia Region, is intended to serve recreation, sustainable agriculture, and also to increase landscape diversity and help combat climate change over an area of about 1300 hectares. "The future shape of the suburban park will contribute to the biodiversity of the area, ensure better water retention in the landscape through the revitalization of the banks of both rivers, and also provide nature-friendly flood protection for neighboring municipalities," said Deputy Mayor Jana Komrsková (Pirates).

Thirteen teams from nine countries applied for the competition, six of which advanced to the second round and developed competition proposals. The winning proposal was prepared by architects from Catalonia, France, and the Czech Republic. "Their approach not only represents current European quality but also demonstrates the expertise and planning capabilities of the team for developing sustainable urban landscapes," stated the chairman of the competition jury, German architect and urban planner Michael Schwarze-Rodrian.

According to earlier statements, based on the developed winning proposal, the city will prioritize addressing the entrances to the park in Radotín and Černošice, including proposals for a parking lot and public transport stops, as well as a design for a safe connection between Zbraslav and Radotín for pedestrians and cyclists. It is not yet clear when the construction of the park will specifically begin and when it will be completed and opened to the public.
