Prague – This year, Prague, in collaboration with the state, plans to complete the assignment and announce a competition to create a study that will propose the future shape of development on city-owned land in the vicinity of the Letňany metro station. CTK reported today that Deputy Mayor Petr Hlaváček (for TOP 09) stated this. The study will also serve as a basis for the necessary change to the zoning plan. The city and the state have been in dispute over the land, as Prime Minister Andrej Babiš wants to build a complex for officials there.

"The assignment should be completed this year, and the change to the zoning plan should be ready within two years," said the deputy. He previously indicated that negotiations with the state regarding the form of the competition assignment have been going well. Hlaváček is not opposed to having office buildings on the land, provided they are accompanied by housing and other functionalities. "There is nothing wrong with there being not only housing but also some work there," he said. The city is also advocating for the construction of a new hospital in the area.

The development area of Letňany - Kbely also includes private land, where the richest Czech, Petr Kellner, is planning to build a new district on the site of the current sports airport, and the Aviatika Letňany complex is also awaiting transformation. Hlaváček mentioned today that if negotiations with the state failed, the city could work on preparing the study independently.

In the past, Prime Minister Babiš called on the city leadership to transfer its land in Letňany to the state for the construction of a complex for thousands of state officials. The city, under the leadership of Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates), resisted this, with Hřib rejecting the idea of an "official ghetto" and conditioning the transfer of land to the state on several terms, such as a financial contribution for the completion of the city ring road. Last year, Babiš stated that the state would contribute 60 billion to the city for the ring road. The negotiations also include exchanges of buildings and land between the city and the state.
