Jirkov - Jirkov in the Chomutov region is planning for a bus station in the future. Architect Jakub Kynčl presented a proposal to the councilors today, which emerged from an architectural competition. In addition to a covered platform, the plan includes a new public space, a roundabout, and a parking garage.

According to the proposal, the roundabout planned to be located between Zaječická and Palackého streets will connect to the station. The architects proposed a covered space that will allow passengers to board "with dry feet," even in inclement weather. The space is intended to be complemented by a parking garage. Mayor Dana Havlátková Jurštaková (ODS) noted, however, that the city has not yet calculated the costs. According to her, there may only be preparations for the future construction of a two-story parking garage.

A new feature would be a public space in the form of a square. The proposal considers that it will connect to the theater. The entire area, including the station, will be supplemented with benches, furniture, and electronic information boards and restrooms are also planned.

The councilors appreciated that the selection was made through an architectural competition. "I just regret that only one proposal was submitted," said opposition councilor Bedřich Fryč (Our Jirkov). He pointed out that the city could consider rewards for those who apply in the future. The architects stated that they prepared several proposals, from which the one presented today was chosen.

For next year, the city proposed an amount of around five million crowns in the budget for the preparation of project documentation. "It is planned that we want to build the bus station in the coming years," said Lenka Batrinová from the city's financial department to ČTK.
