Jemnice will present the winning designs of the architectural competition

Jemnice - Jemnice evaluated the architectural competition for the modification of the summer cinema valley and the scout clubhouse. On Saturday, the winning designs will be presented to the public. Cost estimates are 50 million crowns. The shape of the valley was the first project for which the city organized an architectural competition, said the city's mayor Pavel Nevrkla (ODS) to ČTK.

The competition was won by the design of architects Lukáš Fišer and Kristýna Shromáždilová, who have also been successful in competitions for the Rosice swimming pool and the Říčany Mill community center.

The design gave the scout clubhouse the appearance of a simple single-story building in a circular layout with an open wedge. According to the jury, its shape with an open fireplace respects and enhances the natural character of the valley, where the architects also proposed several separate spaces that can serve as stages for cultural events.

The Saturday presentation of the designs will be at 3:00 PM at the Jemnice castle. "Some architects will also be here. Among others, the chairman of the selection committee, architect David Vávra, will be present," said Zdeněk Šálek, head of the Jemnice department of investments and development, to ČTK. The city has allocated 700,000 crowns for awards for the competition proposals.

The town of about four thousand inhabitants, operating annually with a budget of 170 million crowns, addressed the appearance of approximately a two-hectare area under the castle walls in the wider city center, which also includes scout facilities.

According to the mayor, their clubhouse is already in poor technical condition, the building is heated by storage stoves, it is not insulated, has a small kitchenette, and one toilet. "But the surroundings are good for the scouts, it's a forest park, and it's not far from the city center, while being outside of it," said Nevrkla.

The original summer cinema has long been unused, with only the wall onto which films were projected remaining, and concrete steps no longer covered with wooden benches for seating. The city now has outdoor movie screenings secured by an inflatable projection screen placed in the castle courtyard during the summer.

The city is now waiting for negotiations with the winner of the architectural competition regarding further project work. Next year, it intends to attempt to secure grants for the modifications. "However, this is one of those projects that we will still need to sit down and discuss; there needs to be political consensus on it," said Nevrkla. If an agreement is reached and the city is successful with its grant application supporting the modification of public spaces, the valley could begin to change in 2025.
