Biography
Karel Filsak was born in Jindřichův Hradec as the son of a construction entrepreneur. His studies in architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague were interrupted by the war. From 1939 to 1942, he was imprisoned by the Nazis. Subsequently, from 1943 to 1946, he worked in the studio of J. Gočár. In 1947, he graduated from the Czech Technical University, where he served as an assistant to Prof. Starý and Prof. Mikuškovice from 1947 to 1948. Since 1949, he has been working at the Prague Stavoprojekt in J. Havlíček's studio, where he led his own studio from 1954 to 1957. From 1958 to 1960, he led the Konstruktiva studio, and from 1960 to 1967, he led a significant project studio of Czechoslovak Airlines. From 1967 to 1971, he had a studio in the Association of Design Studios, and from 1971 to 1975, he led the Epsilon studio at the Project Institute of Construction of the Capital City of Prague. In 1997, he received the Award of the Architects' Association for his lifelong work.
