Biography
John Quentin Hejduk was a member of the architectural groups the New York Five and Texas Rangers. He studied at Cooper Union (1947-50), University of Cincinnati (1950-52), and Harvard University (1952-53), where he earned a master's degree. Subsequently, he was able to spend a year at a university in Rome thanks to a Fulbright scholarship. He briefly worked in the New York office of I.M. Pei (1956-58). Initially, he taught at the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin (1954-65) and Cornell University in Ithaca (1958-60) until he moved to teach at the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at Cooper Union in 1964, where he led for a quarter of a century until his death in 1975. Among his students are Shigeru Ban, Daniel Libeskind, and Ricardo Scofidio.
