Biography
Jaroslav Kovář senior was a Czech architect. His work is inspired by a multitude of architectural styles from the early 20th century, ranging from neo-baroque to Art Nouveau, cubism, and monumentalism. Most of his buildings are located in Olomouc. He studied at the Czech Technical University in Prague under Professor Alois Čenský, and according to some sources, he also studied in Brno under Professor Jaroslav Syřiště. Between 1905 and 1908, he educated himself and worked in various studios in the USA (New York, Chicago), and in 1909 he permanently settled in Olomouc, living there with his wife and son (future architect Jaroslav Kovář junior). He began working at the company of Jan Hublík and in 1915 started his career as an independent architect. After the death of his first wife in 1937, he married twice more, the last time in 1951.
