James L. Cutler earned both his bachelor's (1971) and master's (1973) degrees in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, and his second master's degree was obtained in the studio program of Louis I. Kahn (1974). Since 1977, Cutler has been the director of his own design firm, Cutler Anderson Architects (formerly James Cutler Architects), located on Bainbridge Island in the state of Washington, USA.
