Biography
Jacques Gréber was a French architect, landscape designer, and urban planner. He was a strong advocate of the Beaux-Arts style and contributed to the beautification of the cities of Philadelphia and Ottawa. His father was the sculptor and medallist Henri-Léon Gréber (1854-1941), who worked mainly in the USA. After graduating in 1908, he went to America to design gardens for representative villas. After World War I, he returned to Europe, where he taught at the Urban Institute in Paris and participated in the expansion of many French cities. During World War II, he supported the collapsing Vichy regime. After World War II, he was called by the Canadian Prime Minister to return to Ottawa and continue working on the master plan for the city and its surrounding region.
