BiographyFrantišek Prášil was a Czech engineer, designer of metal building structures, later an entrepreneur, and co-owner of the Libeň bridge works Bratři Prášilové a spol. His designs for steel structures of bridges and buildings were realized dozens of times. He created plans for the construction of Prague buildings such as the Petřín Lookout Tower, the Industrial Palace at the Prague Exhibition Grounds, and the Čech Bridge.
He studied at the Prague Polytechnic. He gained his first work experience at the Vojtěšské Huty in Kladno, where he subsequently worked for over 20 years and eventually became the manager. After the fire at the National Theatre in 1881, he designed an iron fireproof curtain that was installed in the restored building.
In 1886, within the framework of the metalworking and engineering company První Českomoravská (ČKD), a dedicated bridge manufacturing plant was established. František Prášil accepted the position of chief engineer. In collaboration with engineer Julius Souček, he designed the structural solution of the Petřín Lookout Tower according to the plans of architect Vratislav Pasovský during the Land Jubilee Exhibition in Prague in 1891, as well as the Industrial Palace at the Prague Exhibition Grounds according to Bedřich Münzberger.
