The building of the former 3rd municipal brewery, nicknamed "VéDePka," has been deteriorating for decades. Students from the Faculty of Architecture at the Brno University of Technology and the Czech Technical University in Prague have proposed its potential uses, which could bring a missing layer of low-threshold culture to the city, not just for the young. The brewery proposals, museum, or workshops can be viewed until September 29 at Přemysl Otakar Square, from where they will move directly to the VéDePka premises. A supporting program for the Architecture Day festival will also be prepared on September 30 as part of the exhibition.

The area of the former brewery is located on sites where the city's fortifications historically stood. The VéDePka, in the green-blue ring of Litovel with connections to the river, represents a significant potential for the city's development. Currently, the area contains a dumping ground for wrecks and is decaying. Therefore, seven students from the FA VUT in the studio of professors Ivan Koleček and Vojtěch Jemelka and three students from the Faculty of Architecture at ČVUT from the Sitta-Chmelová studio have embarked on designing a possible future for the area.

From the survey preceding the proposals, it emerged that Litovel lacks low-threshold, unofficial culture, especially for the young. A significant portion of the younger generation leaves for entertainment or life elsewhere. Some of the proposals therefore come with a new community center for independent culture, which would complement and support current events in the city. Another space is being reimagined for informal education and craft workshops, or a brewery restaurant, multifunctional hall, or a brewing museum. All proposals share a common element – a courtyard filled with activities, open to the river, allowing for rest and recreation along the waterfront. Another reason for the outflow of young people and the aging of the city is the low availability of housing. Therefore, the students incorporated high-quality contemporary housing solutions into their proposals, which align with the city's management's intention to create new capacities.

Eight student proposals are now presented through large-format panels at the Litovel Přemysl Otakar Square. On Saturday, September 30, the installation will move to the VéDePka area, where as part of the Architecture Day festival, guided tours around the city walls and the VéDePka area and surroundings will be offered starting at 1 PM. At 3 PM, a vernissage will follow in the courtyard, which will include presentations and discussions with the authors in the authentic spaces of the brewery cellars. The official program will conclude in the courtyard at 5:30 PM with a concert by the band No Barriers, which, in addition to its own creations in impulsive Czech-Bosnian rhythms, can also interpret global hits that will get you dancing.

The vision for Litovel will not end merely with the exhibition. The studio assignments of the young architects led to the creation of a platform www.vedepkazije.cz. Visitors to the website can not only view individual projects but also get an overview of planned events and, above all, actively participate in finding the most suitable content for the valuable building in the future. The exhibition was supported by the city of Litovel and the Via foundation, the Litovel brewery, and the KRUH association.
