Lectures for the public "Art Yesterday and Today" are dedicated this time to the significant jubilee of UMPRUM, the 140th anniversary of its founding. The 38th cycle will focus on "Personalities from the History of UMPRUM." In the fifth lecture of the cycle ""Scenographic Engineering of Josef Svoboda," doc. Kateřina Svatoňová will speak.

Czech scenographer and stage designer Josef Svoboda was a teacher at UMPRUM from 1968 to 1989. The lecture will focus mainly on his work for Laterna magika, where he served as artistic director during approximately the same period. In this multimedia "laboratory," he created an open creative experimental environment within the restrictive socialist culture, as well as many innovative scenographies utilizing film, television, lighting design, and stage kinetics. Part of the presentation will include various technical solutions and conceptual staging elements in theater architecture, along with examples from his private archive.
The 38th lecture cycle was prepared by prof. Jindřich Vybíral.
