Biography
He was born in a small town in New Zealand. At the age of fifteen, his family moved to the USA, where the Pullman Foundation enabled him to study architecture for five years at IIT in Chicago (graduated in 1967) under the guidance of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In 1969, he established his own studio. In 1978, he and his wife Eileen founded the firm Optima, which, in addition to design work, also handled construction, financing, and subsequent sales. Since then, Optima has built more than 5,000 apartments and 7 single-family homes. In 2019, he was named an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects.
