Carlos Loperenase was born in Mexico City. He grew up in Mexico, Japan, Italy, and the USA. He studied industrial design at the University of Kansas and earned a master's degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. As a visiting professor, he taught at the University of Thessaly and served as an assistant at the University of Berkeley. In 2001, he co-founded DECA architecture in Athens with Alexandros Vaitsos.
