Biography
Bruno Schmitz was a German eclectic architect renowned primarily for his designs of large monuments. He was the son of a tailor and canvas merchant, Carl Theodor Schmitz (1826-77). He grew up in the center of Düsseldorf and attended the local Academy from 1874 to 1878. Afterwards, he worked for four years in the studio of Hermann Riffart on the new building of the Düsseldorf Academy. From 186 he lived and worked in Berlin.
