In the very center of Brno, there has been an increase in a range of new café, restaurant, and bar establishments in recent years. Some did not survive the challenging socio-healthcare-commercial-political situation between 2019-2021. The first Brno karaoke bar, which opened in 2018, managed to survive. After the cancellation of restrictive measures, it "caught a second wind" and became known primarily among the student population. The parties here can really be "wild".
The karaoke bar is located in a commercial space that is part of the ground floor of the Eduard Tilla apartment building in the historic core of the city, where the intersection of Zámečnická and Veselá streets forms a corner of the city block. The apartment building is a registered cultural monument. For this reason, the adaptation of the space for the needs of the karaoke bar in the exterior is manifested only by a new opening at the entrance, where a new acoustic filter has been created.
In the angled space, it was necessary to place two full-size bars. One is directly connected to the entrance and seating area. The second is linked to the party area with a mini stage. This entire space can be divided by a folding partition. Operationally "off to the side" is a VIP karaoke lounge for smaller private events with its own mini stage. The lounge is separated from the bar and main space by an acoustic filter so that guests do not disturb each other with their own musical performances. In the deeper part of the layout, the operations meet in the utility area – toilets, storages, technology.

You want design, but you need it to work.
From the beginning of our collaboration, we knew that for the karaoke bar, we needed to find the right combination of expressive elements and materials that would withstand the onslaught of guests and properly shape the atmosphere. The result is meant to be a collection of sensations that the guest perceives as an integral, albeit unobtrusive, part of experiencing the evening in the karaoke bar. That one karaoke bar. The appearance of the interior as part of the brand.
The central motif should be solid in both material and concept. Karaoke bar – music – speakers. The fronts of the bar counters are made of concrete casts of speakers set back from the ground, bordered by a brass sheet kick plate. A large light logo at the main stage is mounted in a massive steel circular frame. Niches at the bar with their own lighting are clad in sheet metal. Wall lights and ceiling strips are made of black metal. The dividing partition is suspended on a massive welded steel construction, which is also visually present in the interior. Sanitary elements are made from welded and bent thick-walled sheets. A subtle hint of steampunk is suggested by red spindle valves instead of faucets on the exposed water lines made from copper pipes. The light-space sculpture in the form of a "broken" ceiling is advantageously positioned precisely as the ceiling – thus out of reach of exuberant guests. The walls behind the bar feature hydrophobic cement plaster. The remaining walls, ceiling, and air conditioning ducts are painted in a dark gray washable paint. During night operations, it visually disappears. The dark background emphasizes what is essential – the bar and the people.
