Windy Restaurant Větruše
Architect: Alwin Köhler
Address: Fibichova 25, Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic
Completion:1896-97

Větruše is predominantly a symbolic place, a sort of opposition to the castle, similar to Vyšehrad in Prague. In its current form, it is an excursion restaurant where the association and cultural life of the city took place. In Northern Bohemia, similar structures can be found in many towns (Liberec, Jablonec, Varnsdorf, Děčín, Litoměřice, Most ...), and Větruše is probably the oldest among them. Previously, a more modest restaurant building stood at its location. At that time, there was reportedly an architectural competition for the construction. The building gradually fell into disrepair from the 1970s onward. In the 1980s, there were considerations for an extension to include a hotel, with one of the designs created by Zdeněk Vávra (the father of the later author of "Šumná města" David Vávra). Větruše was saved from complete destruction by a renovation that began in 2002. As part of the construction of OC Forum, from which a cable car now leads to Větruše, the plan from the 1980s to extend the existing building with a hotel component has been revived.
