Public Toilets Bára and Bětka

The boys from the Prague studio H3T architects fulfilled their promise made during the toitoi night, and overnight they built scenic public toilets in the Prague parks of Letná and Dívčí hrady.
They stand just a few meters from the public promenades. These facilities are widely used by the public, especially during the summer months when there is a lively social atmosphere.
The entire planned project was kept secret until the last moment. The toilets are available to the public free of charge. The operation of the toilets is ensured by a nearby drugstore, where it is possible to purchase toilet paper. The H3T architects studio wants to draw attention to the unlimited possibilities of enhancing public spaces and public life, which only require an idea, enthusiasm for a good cause, and a bit of money.

Public space - not only in Prague - lacks a whole range of basic amenities - it is still not sufficiently welcoming to people who wish to use it. We took this as a challenge. We installed two seasonal portable toilets in Letná and Dívčí hrady. We did not intend to compensate for the ignorance of the city leadership, but rather to highlight it in a fun way. The structure in Dívčí hrady is merely a quotation of a classic form - with an unbeatable view. In Letná, we tried to interpret the original model in our own way. The material used is mostly recycled. A successful installation would not have been possible without the help of our friends. Both structures disappeared after a few weeks; however, both fulfilled their purpose and found their visitors.
