History of the Object and the Place
The reconstructed observatory is located on Písečný vrch in Teplice. The original building was constructed around 1965 as part of the Action Z, which corresponded to the quality of the construction and materials used. In the area of the city of Teplice, it was the only "free hill" suitable for this type of building. Since the object is situated at the top of Písečný vrch, it is a dominant feature visible from the surrounding hills. There is a popular rocky viewpoint by the building.

Architectural and Disposition Solution
The reconstruction and renovation of the building preserve this exceptional location with very interesting views and seek to further enhance it within the proposed adjustments. The house utilizes the natural slope of the terrain, which is why the entrance to the building is situated at the level of the basement, while access to the viewpoint and the roof terrace is from the ground floor.
Dominant in both shape and height are the domes after the reconstruction, in which the telescopes are placed. The illumination of the balconies below the domes, which serve as exhibition spaces, has been preserved. Only the original glass blocks have been replaced with windows, and the problem of overheating this space has been eliminated by partially shading it with solid wooden sunshades.
From the original building, only the observation domes have been retained, while the inadequate section of the structure between them was demolished and rebuilt in a larger necessary scope. This allowed for the construction of a representative projection hall, spacious exhibition corridors, adequate sanitary facilities, and also larger facilities for the observatory staff. The annex with a rectangular floor plan has one above-ground floor and one partially basement level. The above-ground floor is cantilevered over the basement section, creating a covered main entrance to the building. The roof between the domes is flat and partially accessible to visitors of the observatory for night observations.

Material Solution
The building is masonry with reinforced concrete ceilings above the basement and under the walkable roof. The roof in the non-walkable part has a supporting steel structure. The facades are designed in two main material variations. The entire ground floor is clad in Siberian larch, and the same material is used for the sunshades on the balconies below the domes. The wood unifies the shape of the complicated building and the composition of the house. The basement and retaining walls are clad in basalt. It is expected that as the materials age gradually, the house will blend into the surrounding landscape.
